Two classic music videos from the band 2029. These are great examples of mid-to-late 90’s Cascadian-Noir Metal that was popularized among the disenfranchised youth of the Oregon coast. Places like Newport, South Beach, and Beverly Beach were havens for this music revolution. 2029, along with the coast-rat punk band, Soldiers of Misfortune, helped change the face of music in the Pacific Northwest’s post grunge era.
These videos were produced by the multimedia artist, and visionary, DJ Danimal Styles.
I can’t believe how well the videos go with the great music!
That was such a great time. I remember my black and white Explorer knock-off guitar, that Peavy amp, and the hand me down Casio keyboard from the 70’s (that we named Skynet) as the drum machine. No Garage Band, no 4 track, it was all live and all analog. Man, not bad for a bunch of geeky metal heads hopped on on soda.
Then the magic came with Dan and his video editing equipment. A trip to Video Land to rent a few choice F13 movies and let the music video roar!
We had marketing smarts as well. Over F13 pt. 6’s opening credits, Dan inserted a huge disclaimer to watch the new video Jack of Spades by 2029 at the end of the movie. The end credits were replaced by the above video. Dan also inserted some choice words to the FBI about their tampering laws to the video, a pirate style Easter egg if you will.
I remember telling some freshman kid from my drafting class to go rent it and see our music video. He came back the next day and said: “All I could really hear was ‘Die die die’.” Indeed, a catchy chorus.
