An ever changing playlist. The goal is to create a soundtrack for a party. Writing this up made me think of one of the greatest articles ever written in the English language. Let’s put a soundtrack to it.
Round 1: Sight. To start out hard, work your way into a frenzy of excitement. This is the part of the movie where the credits are still rolling and we’re establishing a good time. It’s where you’re drinking the last of your pre-game drink while your friends are waiting in the car to come get you as your run out in the dark to get where you’re going. These are the songs you listen to on the way there.
When you enter the door, a song from this section establishes exactly how depraved the night will be.
Round 2…FIGHT! This is the rhythm of the night having firm hold. It’s mellowed out a bit. There are groups of people around talking to each other. There’s no reason to keep the volume as high as it was because its historic purpose has been realized. Here are songs you’d only listen to while drunk, more than likely. You’re in the undertow of big steady waves as the sweet depressant of old begins carries you to Nod…
Round 3…Flight: Here things mellow out. This is where most people, the smart people, leave. Most people will be tired, stoned, or trying to slow down so as not to get partied out. Here the mellow slowly gives way to the next round…
Round 4…The Might: Then the second wind…The sloppy rally. Here are songs you really probably don’t listen to unless you’re drunk. This is the rally. Now that the fucking tourists are gone, those of us with problems can really get down to business.
Round 5…Oh Shite….And finally, the celebration of the substance itself and Bacchus in all of his glory…and pain. The sun is coming up. Nothing to sober you up like realizing that, wondering if vomit is on your trousers, and listening to the Downward Spiral as you try to think of how to atone for disappointing you everyone that ever loved you. But tomorrow is a new day, and you have plenty of time to make it up.
The list is very far from complete from the vision. There is a lot of work to do, especially since AC/DC is now on Spotify. But some day, this will be a great list.
